Winston Churchill ist eine Sagengestalt, Mahatma Gandhi die Erfindung einfallsreicher Drehbuchautoren und König Richard I. lediglich der Held zahlreicher Filme – laut einer aktuellen Umfrage sind diese Vorstellungen für zahlreiche junge Briten gar nicht so abwegig. Auch bei Romanfiguren wie Sherlock Holmes und Robinson Crusoe verschwimmen bei vielen die Grenzen zwischen Realität und Fantasie. Und selbst eine Figur aus einem Lied der Beatles sorgt für gehörige Verwirrung im Königreich.
