Stop sit-down urination for women, Swedish politicians urge

Some Swedish politicians say that sitting down to empty one’s bladder is unsanitary and less healthy for a woman than standing upright. A Swedish political party is taking a stand against seated urination.
At a county council meeting Monday, the Right Party, or Högerpartiet, tabled a motion that would require office washrooms to be genderless with a stand-up-only urination requirement, reported the news agency Tidskrifternas Telegrambyrå.
For women who might refuse to comply, party representatives suggested a separate set of toilets clearly labeled for sit-down urination only.
Högerpartiet, known as a right-wing and masculist organization, believes upright urination is healthier for women and more hygienic for both sexes.
Party speakers cited medical research they said shows women empty their bladders more efficiently while upright. Improved bladder evacuation reduces the risk for gynecological problems, according to the party. It also helps women who stand rather than sit achieve a longer and healthier sex life, it said.
Haggo Vinsen, a substitute council member who authored the motion, told Sveriges Television that the move does not represent an attempt to meddle in the bathroom habits of citizens.
“That’s not what we’re doing. We want to give women the option of going into a healthy toilet,” he said.

Sounds perfectly rational to utilize the effect of enhanced gravity and verticality. The only drawback seems to be how long it took science to engage in the research. Obviously women’s health still is not taken as seriously a subject as men’s. As we are made aware of time and again there is no end to the medical establishment’s patriarchal bias.
On the other hand, the women’s equality movement might not have jumped on the issue for fear of supporting hegemonial male normativity, especially in the realm of the sanitary. How else could it be that it’s not a socialist and feminist organization that makes the above suggestions? That’s the result of sticking to politically correct taboos – a right-wing and masculist party harvests the merit for furthering the cause of women at the cutting edge! Wake up, girls, the good fight isn’t over yet!
