To this date in early November, observers estimate that since the start of the season (September) a total of 173 dolphins from four species have been driven into the cove in Taiji, Japan. Of this total 134 were killed, 28 were released, 6 were live-capture and approximately 5 have an unknown status. Species captured, sold and killed include; bottlenose dolphins, false killer whales, Risso’s dolphins and striped dolphins.
